When Viettel makes a "Smart City" in the style of "Bespoke"
Accompanying partners, providing “Bespoke” style products for each city instead of “uniform” solutions… are considered the secrets to helping Viettel rise to the No. 1 position in Smart City deployment on nationwide.
"Sewing new clothes" for urban areas
In 2021, the "tsunami" of Covid-19 has seriously affected all socio-economic activities of Vietnam. Smart City Center, Viettel Business Solutions Corporation (VTS), is no exception when facing a series of challenges: broken supply chains, customers cutting costs, projects difficult to implement.
However, difficult times also open up new opportunities. "From the Covid-19 pandemic, customers can clearly see the power of digital transformation and application of digital technology to solve difficulties in the period of remote working," said Mr. Duong Cong Duc, Director. Smart City Center shared.
In many localities, the Intelligent Operation Centers (IOCs) built by VTS have shown an active role in supporting the administration in management, epidemic prevention, propaganda, isolation, etc. far" has helped VTS have new projects, and thus bring in other good sources of income.
The most important factor that helps VTS "score" in the smart city development process is its commitment to closely accompany the local government. In any project, VTS is always a companion to advise local authorities from project procedures, technical solutions, organization of implementation of project items to the development of processes and regulations to operating items in the project... This is also a "survival" factor for products and application systems after being deployed to come to life.
"During the contact process, we also support customers to build a 5-year strategy - a 10-year vision to help the locality visualize the goals, general picture and specific solutions to achieve those goals. ", a representative of VTS said.
In addition, VTS also advises in the field of digital transformation specifically for each local specific dependent partner with different priority areas such as tourism, industry or agriculture. From the solution VTS builds a set of products aimed at implementing digital transformation, from which the locality will select problems according to their urgency to do immediately or later. After the province selects, VTS will continue to consult deeply into each project.
According to the head of the Smart Urban Center, the Center has the ability to "tailor" according to each local story, putting on each province a new shirt, a new, modern and smarter image.
“Each province will have its own characteristics, concerns, difficulties, and needs, so it will have its own solution and implementation! Hue's story is heritage, tourism, green - clean - beautiful; Hai Phong is a seaport; Thai Nguyen is an industrial park… Each story will have different implementation solutions, different roadmaps, different choices”, Mr. Duc analyzed.
In 2021, the smart city center's revenue will reach more than 450 billion VND, up 45.5% over the previous year. Along with that, Viettel took the No. 1 position in terms of Smart City deployment nationwide. In 2021 alone, VTS has piloted Intelligent Operations Centers (IOCs) for 20 provinces and cities, 200% more than in the whole period of 2019-2020. This sudden growth is due to the idea of piloting and building an IOC product ecosystem on the cloud computing platform.
VTS clearly defines the point of view that an enterprise cannot create all IT products to meet all customers' needs, so it needs to "shake hands" with a number of strong partners to cooperate in providing products and services. service to customers. This cross-cutting strategy has helped VTS take advantage of the strengths of all other units and provide the best products to customers.
According to a VTS representative, the most important factor of successful IT application in localities is mainly related to the executive role of the head and the efforts to build and deploy specialized IT units. . "Leaders of provinces and cities are committed and determined, even though they do not know well about IT, from that commitment and determination can they transmit motivation to their subordinates," a Viettel representative shared.
Citing the Hue-S case, Mr. Duc said that the success of this project has an important role of local leaders. In the process of fighting the Covid-19 epidemic, Hue has introduced policies and procedures to take advantage of IT with the participation of the people.
Accordingly, Hue has required all individuals within the province and outside the province to come to Hue to install at least Hue-S software. In particular, Hue's implementation is very drastic, with service businesses being required to create their own QR-Code and be responsible for monitoring and asking people and customers to scan the QR-Code before doing so. into the area under their control.
According to Mr. Duong Cong Duc, in the past, convincing provinces to invest in smart cities was not easy, because most localities did not have the funds to pilot. If presented in books, it is difficult for partners to "see" the suitability, effectiveness and superiority of Viettel Smart City solutions.
During the approach, in order to help localities visualize how the products will work, Viettel is ready to pilot it in advance for localities to evaluate, review and learn from experience. Many projects have been proposed by VTS to be implemented in the form of POC (test run to demonstrate feasibility) locally, without having to invest any money.
The newly born idea helped solve two important problems at the same time. Firstly, Viettel can accompany to thoroughly solve the "pain" of customers. Second, the IOC pilot implementation time is shortened to less than 3 months to demonstrate the "speedy" deployment capacity.
In particular, the Center also applies many platform systems owned by Viettel such as: Viettel Maps, nBox, Mocha, VMS, VDP, Callbot... "This is an advantage that only an ecosystem like Viettel has. If compared with the world, IOC Viettel in terms of features can also be said to be equivalent to the world's products, and is more flexible, has an open platform to be able to customize modules, add new modules new technology, taking advantage of Viettel technology platform systems within the Group", the leader of the Smart City Center affirmed.
Nearly half a year has passed since Viettel's smart urban model was honored at a major award such as the World Communication Awards 2021, Mr. Duc still cannot hide his emotions when repeating: "Extremely happy and proud. , because our efforts have been recognized, by an international award.”
“However, right after that joy and pride”, Mr. Duc confided, “is the concern, how to continue to do better, deploy more to deserve this result. Even the Center brothers immediately thought that after this product was successfully deployed in Vietnam, it would bring it to the international market.
